Aquainting with the Industries:
The roughness of the area is not helpful to the development of
industries. Stone iron, china clay, manganese are the minerals to say. Manganeese mines are found at Belpahari.
In Kharagpur and Jhargram some big industries like Rail factory,
iron plant, wodden industry are found. Jindal group has an iron plant at Shalbani.
A meat manufacturing factory is to be set up here.There is a paper mill in Jhargram.Small industries have also
been set up beside the NH6. RBI has a mint at Shalbani. Cottage industry is more or
less developped here. Making dishes from shal leaves is a special cottage industry of
the district. Handlooms at Gopiballavpur, Kespur, Anandpur, Amarshi and
Ramjivanpur are reknown to all. Goldsmiths of Kharar are expert both in iron and bronze.
