Aquainting with the culture:
Kaibartas are the major cast.Santals are the major tribal group. Muslims are major in some areas of the middle part. Many types of people
from all over India live in Kharagpur. For this, J.N.Nehru has called the city "Miniature India". More than 90% people in the district speaks in bengali (35% in Kharagpur).
Jhargram is a Santal cultured subdivision. Devi Sitala is mostly worshipped in the district. Durgapuja, Rathayatra, Rasmela, Bhimpuja, Chanchar, Gajan(Charak), Uram,etc. are mostly celebrated. |
